About Mrs. Phillips
Paulette Phillips:
Specialized Reading Tutor
I am honored to be a National Board Certified Teacher in Child Development. I have had many years teaching experience as a general education teacher in primary grades, kindergarten through third. I taught all subjects and my specialty is teaching children to read. The last 25 years of my teaching experience was in the Carlsbad Unified School District.
Over the years, I have discovered the most effective and successful approach to teaching children how to read is by using all modalities of learning. Using manipulatives, visuals, stories & gestures during instruction increases every student's ability to learn no matter what type of learner they are. I also use all modalities of learning to bridge student learning from the last lesson to the current, to review, and promote long-term memory recall.
My mission is to empower every child with the gift of reading, recognizing it as the foundation for learning, growth, and lifelong opportunity. Reading opens doors to imagination, knowledge, and critical thinking, allowing children to explore new worlds, understand diverse perspectives, and develop the skills they need to succeed in school and beyond. By fostering a love for reading, I nurture curiosity, confidence, and resilience—equipping children with the tools to thrive in an ever-changing world. I believe that every child deserves the joy, freedom, and limitless rewards that come from knowing how to read.
My goal is to not only teach reading, but to also instill a life long love of reading in each and every student.
